Co President Jan Wayne welcomed and greeted all. She thanked hostesses Vice President Ginger Michel, Julie Honeycutt, and Melissa Whitmeier. She passed out sign up sheets for Christmas Bazaar 2025 and asked members to sign up.
Membership Report – Membership Chair Margaret Stone called role. We have 34 active members with one more candidate potentially joining soon, and then the club will be at our cap of 35 members. Member Jana Humleker introduced her sister Alissa Johnson Trippes and friend Therissa Cohen.
1. Speaker – Vice President Ginger M introduced speaker Rachel Meriwether, faculty at the BRCC Horticulture Program, graduate of Auburn with a master’s in plant propagation. She studied how various forms of horticulture can be used to help communities with little economic opportunity. She thanked the club for its continued financial support of BRCC’s horticulture scholarship program. About 48 students are enrolled in the program at this time. She took the club on a tour of BRCC’s new greenhouse. The college recently celebrated the grand opening of its new, high tech automated greenhouse, a 4320-4,727 square-foot facility designed to train agricultural professionals with cutting edge technology in the rapidly expanding grower industry. The project was completed in Summer 2025. The next plant sale is Oct. 4, 2025, for fall plants and is scheduled in conjunction with Farm City Day at Jackson Park. She referenced an interesting nursery for members to visit: Plant Delights Nursery at Juniper Level Botanic Garden developed by plantsman Tony Avent in Raleigh, NC.
2. New Business – Minutes from August 2025 meeting were approved.
3. Treasurer’s Report – Interim Treasurer Ginger M presented the treasury report. The club has a balance of $15,270.02 at present. Dues can be paid for 2026 beginning next month: Members, $100 and Associates, $60.
4. GCNC Committee –Districts 1 and 2 meeting with state officers will be held on Oct. 7, 2025. Several members, including Advisor Sallie Carr, will attend near Hickory, N.C. All are welcome. Please reference the website for other important dates.
5. Old Business – Co President Anne Lee called for a vote on the proposed modifications to the club’s by-laws. The club unanimously voted to amend the By-Laws to read: “The club may modify the dues by a vote of simple majority of the membership after recommendation by the Board. The vote may be either electronic or in person assuming there is a quorum.”
6. Bazaar Info – Working Committees are now being formed for Christmas Bazaar 2025. All members were encouraged to sign up for multiple committees and assignments as soon as possible. Members may sign up online or in person at meetings. The following committees are opportunities for all: Washi, Food/Kitchen, Crafts, Bulbs, Publicity, Wreath Bar, Logs, Live Greens, Check Out, Mail Box saddles. Leaders stressed the need for workers! Members were encouraged to complete preorders for bulbs and wreaths – order sheets were passed out. We need white pine cones available now.
