Committee Head Reports
Membership – Margaret provided the Member status updates – Currently at 33 Active Members. The club has
a cap of 35 members in the Active category. Margaret gave a brief history of the group including the 1957 Constitution and By-Laws. She noted the last change to the by-laws was in 2025, when we increased dues and balanced the budget. It was also noted that the by-laws were also changed in 2020 when the club moved from a from a fiscal year to a calendar year. She then introduced a fun trivia game designed to test our knowledge of the By-Laws, including questions on recruitment, member responsibilities, new member sponsor responsibilities, and the qualifications of Membership.
Discussions ensued regarding recruitment of new members. Jana mentioned the sponsor should know the prospective new member well enough to complete the application. Patti Little asked if there was an exception for persons who approach us for membership, and who also have been involved in other garden clubs.
Civic – Anne Waring picked up, and dropped off the Safelight Gift Cards – the 2025 card total was $650
Website & Newsletter – Sally Jeter Gregg gave us a refresher on using the website, including the password change, which occurred the evening of Feb., 12th. The new password is LOSGC26. Sally highlighted the new Easy Links section, and the section to submit Program ideas. She also noted that the Member’s cell numbers and email addresses were active links. Sally also created a new webpage for the Monthly Meeting Schedule. She asked if the group was interested in re-installing the ‘Grapevine’ webpage. It was confirmed that all Newsletter submissions be sent to Sallie Carr, who will then compile and share that information with Sally Gregg for inclusion in the Newsletters.
GCNC – Sallie Carr mentioned both our Newsletter and Website were submitted to the State for an award. There was no mention of winning.
Atrium – Barbara & Karen plan to install the Fairy Door in the Atrium sometime in March. Horticulture – We are still in need of a chairperson
Yearbook – Ginny Mitchell recommended that everyone review the Yearbook for accuracy and review the pages for upcoming Monthly Meetings to find out when you are scheduled to co-host.
Fun Thymes – Jan Wayne updated members on this year’s four (4) scheduled events.

2026 Donations –
Ginger informed the members that the Board has voted to donate $20,000 this year; $3,000 of which came from an unrestricted donation last year. Ginger asked the group in attendance whether we should make a few “impactful” donations? Or donate to more organizations?Barbara Gresh proposed we make visual enhancements to the Atrium and purchase additional plants and outdoor pots. To that, Margaret proposed taking the $3,000 unrestricted donation and using it for civic projects and using the remaining $17,000 to ‘green’ donations.
A recommendation was made to consider giving to Berkeley Park and another suggestion was made to consider donation to the Town of Laurel Park for a pollinator garden. Sallie Carr asked if we can re-install the plaque in the Veteran’s Garden with some of the funds. Another member proposed we give more money to Bullington Garden this year to assist with damage to their greenhouse.Ginger will provide us with a list of past donations and ask for suggestion and input from Members. A suggestion was made that members who want to propose giving for a specific cause/group should do their homework and come prepared to present their recommendation to the group. There was not an agreed upon solution for presenting ideas, but Jan Wayne proposed that all proposal be submitted in advance of the March meeting.
The group discussed hosting a Christmas Bazaar again in 2026
Ginger said we had 11 Survey Monkey responses. All positive. No dissent. Some members expressed their desire to continue the Bazaar. Other suggestions, such as pre-orders were presented to the group. A blind Yes-No ballot vote was taken. Of the 22 ballots collected at the close of the meeting, all were Yes.Ginger tabled the discussion on the 70th Anniversary for LOSGC
